You might be interested to know that a new quarterly knitting magazine is in town! PURL is brought to you by the team behind PLY and WEFT magazines, for spinning and weaving respectively. So it makes perfect sense to create a magazine for knitters and complete the constructed textiles trivium :-).
Issue 01 | Cast On
The very first issue of PURL magazine is called Cast On and is one of the most fascinating things I’ve ever read, knitting-wise. There’s a curated and balanced blend of practical articles, tutorials, and nerdiness (more about which in a moment), which ticks a lot of boxes. Personally, I’ve always felt that quarterly publications are just right. You get enough time to really digest the content between issues, and they don’t create clutter. This cadence is perfect for knitting because our craft is NOT fast by any means. This is especially true if you knit garments.
And, last, but not least – the photography throughout is beautiful. It gives PURL a real editorial feel, and the high-end look is a perfect visual complement to the depth of the content.
Did I contribute to the first issue of PURL magazine? Of course!
‘Swatching is Fabric Alchemy’ is a deep dive into fabrication. With knitting, I’ve always loved the idea of designing and making your own fabric.
