Welcome to my collection of modern women’s knitting patterns, including sweaters (or jumpers), cardigans and accessories! I’m an independent knitwear designer and have been publishing knitting patterns since 2013.
Designs from Natalie’s studio

My knitwear designs for women feature effortless styling, flowing lines, and understated feminine details.
If you like women’s knitting patterns with a modern feel and specific information about exactly where and how you can adjust the design for your body shape, let me tell you more!
I don’t publish anything
to my knitwear collection
without incorporating
fitting solutions.
This means that you can knit any of my designs with peace of mind.
No more pages of notes for your fit adjustments – I’ve done the work for you!

Knitwear Collection | Modern Women’s Knitting Patterns for Sweaters and Cardigans

The Aneeta wrap cardigan knitting pattern is the stuff of dreams. It’s a classic tailored piece that doesn’t gape ANYWHERE.
Not only are there darts worked through the ribbing to curve over your belly, there are also gathered darts throughout the bodice. No need to blend sizes here!
You can go about your day without worrying about your Aneeta cardigan slipping off your shoulders or having to adjust it every five minutes.

I love designing knitwear layers that fit easily into your wardrobe and allow you to get on with your day without fussing with your clothes.
On one hand, this versatility comes down to quality of fit; on the other hand, it’s about not going overboard with details.
My designs have character, but they’ll never fight with your individuality. Your personal touches – yarn choice, fibre type, colour – bring my designs to life in a way that allows your light to shine. That’s the way it should be.

The Bonnie sweater knitting pattern – a cute lace cropped jumper with a nod to the 1940s

Bonnie is another one of my bestselling patterns, complete with sweet period details and belly-friendly waist darts. She suits all seasons and is designed to work in any fibre, from wool to cotton and linen.

I tend to publish patterns a bit more slowly, because I like to take my time to get things right and take feedback on board. My newsletter readers are not shy about telling me what they’d like to see more of! Knitwear design is best when you have a close connection with the people who appreciate you most.
Knitwear Collection | Modern Women’s Knitting Patterns for Accessories

Longevity – The Isblomst shawl knitting pattern
Old school lace is part of Isblomst’s charm, but I also added sneaky darts to make sure this shawl never falls off your shoulders.
Hand knitting is a big investment of your time. It makes sense to knit timeless styles that endure throughout the decades of life.

Fitting solutions also apply to accessories!
Although these projects are smaller,
they still need to fit beautifully.
I have a deep interest in human anatomy and how our bodies are built.
By focusing on points of connection, not points of difference,
I’ve established a secure base from which to explore fitting solutions.
A lot of women’s knitting patterns need this by default.
You need to see how you can adjust the pattern to fit you.

Diversity in size and shape – The Icicle legwarmers knitting pattern
Even legwarmers have fitting requirements! I included dart shaping through the ankles of the Icicle legwarmers and notes on how to fit your calves.
Your legs aren’t straight tubes, so why should your legwarmers be the same?

Natalie Warner | The independent designer behind the knitwear collection
I remember falling asleep to the sound of my mum at the sewing machine, but I was also lucky enough to have been wrapped in handknits and crochet blankets since birth. The handmade has been there from day one.
First, they asked me what I wanted to wear. Then, they made it for me and asked me to help as I got older. Eventually, I started doing it all myself.
I’ve been making executive decisions about clothes ever since!
It all began when I was a small child. I was about aged 3, as I am in this photo, when I started to notice that my mum and grandma made a lot of clothes for me.
For me, clothing is comfort and feelings of security. That need doesn’t change as we go through the seasons of life.

That’s why fit is so important.
It’s a huge part of what makes us look beautiful in the clothes we wear.
It’s not just aesthetic.
Beauty is what makes us fall in love – but fit ensures that we stay in love.

I’m especially drawn to romantic, feminine styling from the mid-20th century. I love reinterpreting those details for our busy lives today. This inspires knitwear that’s equal parts beauty, comfort, and function.
Maybe this comes from the Ercol furniture my grandparents owned!
I grew up in a house with my maternal grandparents.
The passage of time, and making classic pieces that can be passed down for generations, is a BIG DEAL in my world.
Thank you for taking a quick tour around my studio 🙂 Before I let you go…
I have two offerings for knitters. First, the pattern shop, if you’re keen to make knit clothes and accessories for yourself and your loved ones. Second, a knitwear design course if you want to create your own patterns.

Natalie Warner | Knitting Pattern Designer and 4th Generation Dressmaker
I design size- and shape-inclusive modern knitting patterns for clothes makers who want their garments to fit well. Clothes should serve you, not the other way around. You alter clothes to fit you, not alter yourself to fit the clothes. This is at the heart of everything I do. I also offer a range of online knitwear design courses, covering everything from illustration to pattern grading, and consultancy services.
If you’re enjoying my content, you can get more by reading my blog, which features several articles on garment fitting, alterations, knitwear design and sewing pattern reviews, following me on Instagram or Pinterest @natalieinstitches, or signing up to my newsletter.
