Hello, and thank you for stopping by! I’m Natalie Warner, knitwear designer and clothes making teacher.
If you’d like to learn how to design and make clothes that fit you perfectly, you’re in the right place.
I have two offers that can help you:
An online course for knitters and crocheters who want to design their own sweaters and cardigans, taking you from drawing skills and design development to pattern drafting and pattern grading.
An in-person course that fuses made-to-measure, creative pattern cutting, and garment construction for non-stretch fabrics, so you can design AND sew your dream wardrobe knowing it will fit you.
Natalie is an experienced designer and a brilliant teacher, so if you’ve been thinking about making any of her designs or doing any of her classes – just do it!

Thank you Natalie for your incredible patience and for sharing your extensive knowledge. I have been terrified of set-in sleeve design for years, and you’ve taken a lot of the mystery out of it. Thank you!

Knitting patterns with tailored details
Are you a knitter who appreciates little details and shaping techniques, and likes patterns that tell you EXACTLY where and how to make adjustments? YAY!
Knitwear is super cosy, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on fit or settle for oversized styles. Making fabric from a length of string = plenty of shaping opportunities for you to fit your body beautifully.
You’ll like my designs even more if you’re also a fan of texture, lace, and cable stitch patterns.
Natalie’s patterns are thoughtful and smart and accessible.
kate atherley, knitting legend
Hi, I’m Natalie.
Body shape, fit, and comfort are at the heart of design in my world. I’ll teach you how to knit, design, and make clothes in a way that incorporates your fitting needs from the start so that anything you design is automatically made to measure.
Imagine: Goodbye to trousers gaping at the back! No more knitting sweaters that drown you just so you can fit your shoulders/bust/belly. Or wearing wrap dresses that just. won’t. stay. PUT.
I hate those things too. And we can get rid of them together.
With a solid professional background in creative pattern cutting, tailoring and surface pattern design for knits, you’re in safe hands.
New to clothes making, or maybe it’s been a while since your Mum or Grandma showed you how to knit or use a sewing machine?
The blog
I also write a fortnightly blog that focuses on knitwear design, creative pattern cutting, fitting and alterations, garment construction, and my professional practice as a knitwear designer. Settle in for applied maths, industry insights, and much more.

Natalie Warner
I design size- and shape-inclusive knitting patterns for clothes makers who want their garments to fit well. Clothes should serve you, not the other way around. You alter clothes to fit you, not alter yourself to fit the clothes. This is at the heart of everything I do.
I also teach other people how to design clothes, and run two courses: an online knitwear design course, covering everything from illustration to pattern grading, and an in-person clothing design course comprising made-to-measure blocks, creative pattern cutting, and garment construction.
If you’re enjoying my content, you can get more by reading my blog, which features several articles on garment fitting, alterations, knitwear design and sewing pattern reviews, following me on Instagram or Pinterest @natalieinstitches, or signing up to my newsletter.
