The Perennial Pass is a sanctuary for the observant maker. Not a classroom, but a garden. A space for conversation. It’s a monthly gathering for those who see knitting as a way of being in the world.

This is a space for the confident knitter – the one who values the ‘why’ as much as the ‘how’ – or the less experienced knitter who wants to start strong, with intention.

A Knitting Pattern Membership Community for Those Who Enjoy Making and Wearing My Designs

This is the homely side of my professional practice. No technical lectures. Just a seat at my table, at 3pm UK time on the 3rd Monday of each month, whilst I develop new designs, talk through my creative storytelling, and share the flowers that inspire my palettes.

The Perennial Pass is for friends and neighbours who want to walk through the garden, keep me company, and directly influence and support the creation and production of my knitting patterns.

Why I Created This

For nearly a decade (I joined in October 2013), I’ve found many magical knitters in the busy hallways of the Instagram feed. But as the digital world grows louder and more fragmented, optimised for combative engagement, I’ve found myself spending less time on my phone and more time retreating to the quiet of my garden, following in my grandma’s footsteps. I’ve realised that the most meaningful connections don’t happen in a fleeting scroll, but in the deliberate gift of time — mine and yours, shared in a space built for it.

The Perennial Pass is my answer to the lost and disconnected feeling of social media.

Maybe you feel it too.

It is designed to be a Third Space. That is — a place away from home and work where you can find respite from the noise.

A Seat at My Table

As a member, you are also a neighbour and a patron, directly enabling and influencing the creation of my designs by way of financial and community support. Talented technical editors like Kate Atherley and Sarah Walworth have become friends, been behind my patterns for several years, and still are.

Those who’ve been receiving my newsletters for some time will know about my annual surveys. You’ll also know how keen I am to listen to you between those dispatches. It’s because I want to do my best to ensure that your valuable knitting time — should it be taken up with one of my patterns — is well served. And beyond that, that the finished garment is an heirloom, loved for years and generations to come.

Deciding What to Plant

Within the Perennial Pass, we look at the coming seasons before they arrive. Much like a gardener deciding where the sweet peas will climb or what will survive on the north side of the plot, there’s a lot to be said for the ‘aspect’ of new designs – and existing ones.

It’s more than just testing fibres and fabrics. I see it as a kind of companion planting; which textures and fibres belong together, which yarns will work for a pattern. And bound up in all that, what will work for you. What will best weather the seasons of your life?

This is how handknits last fifty years.

I have learned, through events like the Tammy Tank KAL, that whilst people come for the patterns, they stay for the people and the conversations.

This is an invitation to stay, to share in the beating heart of this practice, and to help me sustain a space that prioritises nourishment over noise.
